Family Photo (father figure) is an ongoing single channel video installation that depicts rotating images of the typical family archetype, a mother, a child and a father. On the surface the image of the father is seen torn out of the photograph with a movie(s) playing in its stead. As the movie ends the original image is revealed. On the surface, this piece seeks to question the irrefutability of the photograph through the manipulation of the referent, an attempt at re-writing history. The revelation of the original image gestures towards a deeper critique of the cliched acts of rebellion through the mutilation of the father figure, a sarcastic mimesis to the tropes of destruction.
